The coming of the Holy Spirit

Acts  2: 1-11

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. And suddenly out of the sky came a sound like a strong rushing wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared tongues as if of fire which parted and came to rest upon them. All were filled with Holy Spirit  and began to speak other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Staying in Jerusalem were religious Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound,a crowd gathered, all excited because each heard them speaking in his own language. Full of amazement and wonder, they asked, Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? How is it that we hear them in our own native language? Here are Parthians,Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Capadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia,Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors in Rome, both Jews and foreigners who accept Jewish beliefs, Cretians and Arabians; all of us hear them proclaiming in our own language what God, the Savior does.

Jesus sends the apostles

Mt. 28:i6-20

As for the Eleven disciples, they went to Galilee,to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Jesus, they bowed before him, although some doubted.

Then Jesus approached them and said, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go therefore, and make disciples from all nations. Baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to fulfill all that I have commanded you,I am with you always until the end of this world.”

Jesus taken up to heaven

Acts 1:1-11

In the first part of my work,Theophilus,I wrote of all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day when he ascended to heaven.

But first he had instructed through Holy Spirit the apostles  had chosen. After his passion, he presented himself to them, giving many signs that he was alive; over a period of forty days he appeared to them and taught them concerning the Kingdom of God.

Once when he had been eating with , he told them, “Do not leave Jerusalem but wait for the fulfillment of the Father’s promise about which I have spoken to you: John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit within a few days.”

When they had come together, they asked him, “Is it now that you will restore the Kingdom of Israel? ”  And he answered, ” It is not for you to know the time and the steps which the Father has fixed by his own authority . But you will receive the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witness in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the earth.”

After Jesus said this, he was taken up before their eyes and a cloud hid him from their sight, While they were still looking up to heaven where he went, suddenly, two men dressed in white stood beside them and said,  “Men of Galilee,  why do you stand here looking up  at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven, will return in the same way as you have seen him go there.”

The Spirit will come

John 15:26-16:4,15

From the Father, I will send you the Spirit of truth. When this Helper has come from the Father, he will be my witness.I tell you all these  things now so that when the time comes you may remember that I told you.All that the Father has is mine; because of this I have just told you, that the Spirit will take what is mine and make it know to you.

The good shepherd

John 10:1-10

1 Truly I say to you, anyone does not enter the sheepfold by the gate, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber . 2 But the shepherd of the sheep enters by the gate. 3 The keeper opens the gate to him and the sheep hear his voice; he calls each of his sheep by name and leads them out. 4 when he has brought out all his own,he goes before them and the sheep follow him for they know his voice.A stranger they will not follow, rather they will run away from him because they don’t recognize a stranger’s voice. ”

6 Jesus used this comparison, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

7 So Jesus said,”Truly ,I say to you, I am the gate of the sheep. 8 All who came were thieves and robbers, and the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the gate, Whoever enters through me will be saved; he will go in and out and find food.

10 The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I have come that they may have  life, life in all its fulness.

Good Friday

Jesus is crucified

They took charge of him.Bearing his own cross,Jesus went out of the city to what is called the Place of the Skull, in Hebrew:Golgotha. There he crucified and with him two others ,one on either side ,and Jesus was in the middle.when the soldier crucified Jesus , they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one part four each of  them. But as the tunic was woven in one place from top to bottom, they said. “Let us not tear it , but cast lots to decide who will get it.”  This fulfilled the words of Scripture: They divided my clothing among them; they cast lots for my garment. This was what the soldiers did.

Jesus last words

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister Mary , who was the wife of Cleophas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw the Mother , and the disciples he said to the Mother ,” Woman this is your son. ”  Then he said to the  disciple , ” There is your Mother.” And from that moment the disciple took her to his own home. With that Jesus knew all was now finished and he said, ” I am thirsty, what was written in scripture .

The pierced Christ

As it was Preparation Day,the Jews did not want the bodies to remain on the cross during the sabbath ,for this sabbath was a very solemn day. When they came to Jesus, they  saw that he was already dead. One of the soldiers , however ,pierced his side with a lance and immediately there came out blood and water.

The one who has seen here gives his witness so that you may believe: his witness is true and he knows that he speaks the truth. All this happened to fulfill the words of Scripture. Not one of his bones shall be broken.Another text says:The shall look on him whom they have pierced.

Jesus washes his disciples feet

Jn. 13:1-15n

It was before the feast of the Passover.Jesus had realized  that his hour  come to pass from this world to the Father, and as he had loved those who were his own in the world ,he would love them with perfect love.

Jesus knew that the Father had entrusted all things  to him,and as he had come from GOD,he was going to God.So he got up from table ,removed  his garment and taking a towel, wrapped it around his waist .Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them  with the towel he was wearing.

When he came to Simon Peter ,Simon said to him, ” Why,Lord, you want to wash my feet!” Jesus said , ” What i am doing you cannot understand now, but afterwards you will understand it.” Peter replied , “Lord , You shall never wash my feet.”

Jesus answered him, ” If I do not wash you ,you can have no part with me.” Then Simon Peter said, ” Lord , wash not only my  feet , but also my hands and my head!”

Jesus replied    , ” Whoever has taken  bath does not need to wash (except the feet), for he  clean all over .You are clean ,though not all of you.Jesus knew who was to betray him; because of this he said , ” Not all of you are clean.”

When Jesus had  finished washing their feet,he put on the garment again, went back to the table again and said to them, ” Do you understand what I have done to  you? You call me Master and Lord ,and you are right ,for so I am.If ,I, then, your Lord and Master , have washed your feet, you also must wash one another’s feet.I have just given you an example that as I have done , you also may do.
